But as the platform keeps growing, so do concerns about safety, financial scams, and inappropriate content. Recent investigations by Deseret News and The Guardian have highlighted some serious problems, like predatory behavior, misleading in-game purchases, and a lack of proper content moderation. So what does this mean for parents and players? In this post, we’ll go over the biggest concerns, the possible lawsuits Roblox might face, and what families can do to stay informed and protected. The Rising Concerns Over Roblox’s Safety Issues
Roblox is one of the most popular gaming platforms for kids, but more and more parents are realizing it may not be as safe as it seems. While the platform promotes creativity and social interaction, there have been increasing reports of predatory behavior, financial scams, and inappropriate content slipping through the cracks.
One major concern is who kids are interacting with. Despite Roblox’s efforts to filter chats and moderate content, there have been disturbing cases of adults targeting children through private messages and in-game experiences. Some users have even found ways to bypass safety filters, exposing kids to content that should never be on a child-friendly platform.
Then there’s the issue of money. Roblox’s in-game currency, Robux, is at the center of its business model, but many kids don’t fully understand how much real money they’re spending. Some games use misleading tactics to encourage purchases, leading to surprise charges on parents’ accounts.
Regulators in the U.S. and the UK, especially under the Online Safety Act, are now taking a closer look at how platforms like Roblox protect young users. But many argue the company still isn’t doing enough. As more families come forward with concerns, the question remains—will Roblox be forced to make real changes, or will it take legal action to hold them accountable?
Legal Challenges Roblox May Face
As more concerns surface about safety, financial exploitation, and child protection, Roblox could be heading toward some serious legal trouble. Regulators in the U.S. and the UK are paying closer attention, and lawsuits might not be far behind.
One big issue is consumer protection. Parents have reported that their kids have unknowingly spent huge amounts of money on Robux, thanks to confusing in-game purchases. If courts determine that Roblox didn’t properly disclose costs or used manipulative tactics to encourage spending, the company could face legal action for deceptive business practices.
Another potential problem? Negligence claims. There have been countless reports of predatory behavior, inappropriate content, and safety issues on the platform. If victims or advocacy groups argue that Roblox hasn’t done enough to keep kids safe, lawsuits could claim the company failed to protect its users.
Then there’s the issue of privacy violations. Since most of Roblox’s users are kids, strict rules apply when it comes to collecting and storing their personal data. If Roblox is found to be violating COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) in the U.S. or similar laws in other countries, it could face major fines and legal consequences.
With governments tightening online safety regulations and advocacy groups demanding accountability, Roblox may soon have to answer some tough legal questions. Whether through government fines, class-action lawsuits, or stricter oversight, the pressure is building—and this could just be the beginning.
Recent Investigations and Reports on Roblox
Roblox has been under growing scrutiny lately, with reports exposing serious concerns about safety, financial exploitation, and content moderation. While the platform markets itself as a kid-friendly gaming space, recent investigations suggest it may not be doing enough to protect its young users.
A Deseret News report called out Roblox’s in-game spending system, where kids are encouraged to buy Robux without fully understanding how much real money they’re spending. Many parents have been hit with unexpected charges, leading consumer advocates to question whether the platform takes advantage of younger players through confusing monetization tactics.
Meanwhile, The Guardian investigated ongoing safety risks, particularly involving predatory behavior and inappropriate content. Despite Roblox’s efforts to moderate its platform, some users continue to find ways around the filters, raising concerns about how well the company enforces its own rules. Regulators in the UK have taken notice, with Ofcom looking into whether Roblox is following the new Online Safety Act, which is designed to hold online platforms accountable for protecting children.
With pressure mounting from regulators and consumer protection groups, Roblox may soon have to make major changes—or face legal consequences. As more families speak out, the question remains: will Roblox step up and make its platform safer, or will it take lawsuits and fines to force change?

What Parents and Users Need to Know
With all the concerns about Roblox’s safety, parents and players need to be aware of the risks and how to stay protected. While the platform is meant to be a fun and creative space, issues like excessive in-game spending, online predators, and exposure to inappropriate content have made many people question how safe it really is.
One major issue is how easy it is for kids to spend money on Robux. Many games push frequent purchases, and without strong parental controls, some kids have unknowingly spent hundreds or even thousands of dollars. To avoid surprise charges, parents should check account settings, set up spending limits, and talk to their kids about responsible gaming habits.
Another big concern is who kids are interacting with. Even though Roblox has filters and chat restrictions, some users still find ways to bypass safety measures, which can lead to inappropriate conversations or exposure to harmful content. Parents can help by adjusting privacy settings, limiting chat features, and keeping an eye on their child’s activity.
Regulators in the UK and the US are now watching platforms like Roblox more closely, especially with new laws like the UK’s Online Safety Act. This could lead to stricter rules around content moderation and user protection.
The best way to keep kids safe on Roblox is to stay involved. Understanding the risks, setting boundaries, and having open conversations about online safety can make a big difference. And if Roblox has negatively impacted a child, legal options may be worth exploring.
Roblox Lawsuits Updates
As more concerns come to light about safety, in-game purchases, and content moderation, Roblox is facing legal trouble. Regulators in both the U.S. and the UK are already investigating, and consumer groups are pushing for stronger protections for kids using the platform.
Lawsuits are starting to emerge, focusing on issues such as misleading in-game purchases, failing to keep kids safe from harmful content, exploitations, kidnappings, and privacy violations. There’s also the possibility of a class-action lawsuit if enough families step forward saying they’ve been financially or emotionally affected by the platform’s policies.
With the pressure building, Roblox may have no choice but to make significant changes, such as improving safety measures, adjusting how in-game purchases work, paying compensation, or even paying fines. Whether the push for accountability comes from government agencies, advocacy groups, or frustrated parents, it’s clear that Roblox will have to address these growing concerns sooner rather than later.

September 22, 2025 - Roblox and Discord Face Negligence Lawsuit
Roblox and Discord are facing a lawsuit after an 11-year-old girl was allegedly exploited by a predator on their platforms. The lawsuit, filed by the minor's mother, claims the companies are negligent for failing to implement sufficient safeguards. It alleges that a predator groomed the child and used Robux, Roblox's virtual currency, to manipulate her into sending explicit images. The legal complaint argues that both corporations put profits ahead of child welfare and that this negligence led to significant emotional and psychological harm for the victim.
September 20, 2025 - Motion Filed to Consolidate Roblox Child Exploitation Lawsuits Into MDL
On September 20, 2025, attorneys Alexandra Walsh and Sarah London filed a motion with the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML), asking to consolidate all federal lawsuits against Roblox into a single MDL (multidistrict litigation). The cases center on allegations that Roblox—and in some instances, Discord—enabled the grooming, exploitation, and abuse of minors on their platforms.
MDLs are designed for situations like this: where many plaintiffs are suing the same defendant(s) over similar types of harm, but with varying specifics. By grouping the cases together, the process becomes more efficient without erasing the differences between each individual lawsuit.
The motion proposes the Northern District of California as the venue and suggests Judge William Orrick or Chief Judge Richard Seeborg to oversee the proceedings.
So why now? There are currently 31 active lawsuits spread across 12 federal districts and assigned to 25 different judges. Consolidating them into one coordinated action would avoid conflicting rulings and streamline discovery—cutting down on the repetition and inefficiency that would otherwise bog down both sides. An MDL wouldn’t just simplify things for Roblox; it would also let plaintiffs share resources and avoid reinventing the wheel in each case.

September 1, 2025 – Dolman Law Group Expands Nationwide Litigation Against Roblox
As of Friday, August 22, 2025, one of the leading law firms in the Roblox Child Harm Lawsuits, Dolman Law Group, has now filed eight lawsuits across the country against the Roblox Corporation. According to the firm, they still have quite a few to file and are vetting hundreds more.
These complaints—filed in California, Missouri, North Carolina, among others—all point to the same core problem: Roblox has completely failed to protect kids from grooming, exploitation, and sexual abuse on its platform.
Every lawsuit seems to follow the same pattern—a predator who is pretending to be another child uses Roblox to get access to vulnerable young users, build up trust with them, and then manipulates these kids into crazy, harmful situations. Sometimes they are exploited into sending nude photos, sometimes it's way worse, like the cases that involve rape or kidnapping, and there are even crazier stories out there that Dolman Law Group is not associated with.
In some of these lawsuits, Robux, Roblox's in-game currency, is involved since predators are well-known to use their "adult money" as leverage to coerce these kids. This seems to be the MO if the predator decides not to go with the "pose as a peer, create trust, and apply social pressure" tactic. Or maybe they try both, I don't know.
But what we do know, and the pattern that is clear in these lawsuits, is that these predators often move the conversations onto other apps like Discord so they can have more privacy to chat. Because of this exact issue, and because we believe they are aware of the problem, Dolman Law Group is also suing Discord.
The lawsuits filed by Dolman and sometimes co-attorneys argue that Roblox has known about these dangers for a long time, but they keep prioritizing growth and profits and keeping investors happy over actually implementing meaningful safeguards.
In the first case filed so far in Missouri, the complaint details how a 13-year-old girl was groomed by a predator who was pretending to be a kid her age. Again, this is a pretty common theme in these lawsuits. And based on our research, it's likely that this has happened to tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of other children.
In California, one of the lawsuits filed by Dolman Law Group named Meta Platforms, Inc. as a co-defendant after predators used Instagram to continue their grooming and exploitation after they met the child on Roblox.
All eight of the Dolman Law Group lawsuits claim that Roblox has knowingly created a breeding ground for predators by completely misrepresenting their platform as safe for kids while failing to put in place even basic protections like decent age verification, real content moderation, or reliable parental controls.
Dolman is seeking damages for severe and life-altering harm, including emotional trauma, mental health struggles, and loss of trust, which they argue were totally preventable if Roblox had done its duty to care for the people and children who use its app.
Dolman Law Group is continuing to lead these cases nationwide. For more information, check out www.roblox-lawsuit.com.

July 23, 2025 - Lawsuit Filed Against Roblox and Discord Over Child Exploitation Claims
Dolman Law Group has filed a lawsuit in California’s San Mateo County on behalf of an 11-year-old Florida girl, alleging that Roblox Corporation and Discord, Inc. enabled child exploitation on their platforms. The suit claims both companies failed to implement adequate safety measures, allowed predators to access and groom minors, and misrepresented their platforms as safe for children.
According to the complaint, the child was groomed through chat features on both apps, leading to serious harm. The lawsuit seeks damages and calls for stronger safeguards to protect young users from exploitation and abuse.
July 1, 2025—Roblox Faces Growing Legal Scrutiny Over Child Exploitation Claims
Roblox Corporation is facing mounting legal pressure from families who allege that the platform failed to protect their children from grooming and sexual exploitation. These lawsuits point to serious gaps in online safety, particularly for underage users who were targeted by adult predators through Roblox’s in-game chat and communication tools.
Recent Lawsuit Filed After Texas Girl Assaulted
A Texas family has filed a lawsuit against Roblox after their 13-year-old daughter was assaulted by a man who first contacted her through the game:
- The predator sent sexually explicit messages to the girl while she was using Roblox, even though parental controls were turned on.
- He coerced her into sharing personal information, which he then used to find her home.
- The man broke into the family’s home and assaulted her, leading to criminal charges and civil litigation.
This case highlights the real-world danger that online predators can pose when platforms fail to adequately screen content and user behavior.
Florida Attorney General Opens Investigation Into Roblox
In response to growing national concern, the Florida Attorney General has launched an investigation into Roblox’s practices regarding child safety. The investigation aims to assess whether Roblox:
- Monitors interactions between adult and underage users effectively
- Filters out explicit or harmful content in real time
- Enforces age restrictions and account verification protocols
- Lives up to its public claims of being a “safe, child-friendly platform”
Attorneys general often pursue these investigations when multiple complaints suggest a company may be violating consumer protection laws or engaging in deceptive practices.
Florida Family Also Files Suit After Child Groomed via Roblox and Discord
Another family in Florida has filed a lawsuit after their underage daughter was allegedly groomed by a predator through both Roblox and Discord. According to the legal complaint:
- The child’s account showed she was underage
- A predator contacted her via Roblox and later transitioned to Discord for private communication
- Despite clear red flags, Roblox failed to stop or report the interaction
The lawsuit claims that Roblox’s marketing regarding child safety is misleading and that the company failed to take reasonable steps to prevent foreseeable harm.

May 1, 2025—California Lawsuit Targets Roblox and Discord for Alleged Exploitation of Minor
A recent civil complaint filed in San Francisco County Superior Court (Case No. CGC-25-624596) accuses Roblox Corporation and Discord Inc. of enabling the exploitation of a 13-year-old girl. Filed under the alias Jane Doe on April 21, 2025, the lawsuit alleges that the child was initially groomed through in-game communication on Roblox before being coerced into sharing explicit material via Discord.
According to the complaint, both companies failed to implement adequate safeguards and allegedly misrepresented the safety of their platforms to parents. Attorneys for the family claim the abuse occurred despite clear indications on the user account that the child was underage.
The legal action highlights features such as Roblox’s “whisper” messaging system and Discord’s private channels as ways the predator maintained contact. The case seeks financial damages for negligence and failure to warn, marking one of the first coordinated legal efforts targeting both platforms over child protection failures.
Federal Class Action Filed Over Alleged Data Collection Practices on Roblox
On April 18, 2025, Michael and Salena Garcia initiated a federal class action (Case No. 2:25-cv-03476) in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on behalf of their child, R.G. The lawsuit claims that Roblox Corp. covertly collects and shares users’ digital activity, including that of children, without proper disclosure or consent.
The filing alleges that the company uses tracking technologies, such as fingerprinting scripts, to harvest detailed data, including IP addresses, device signatures, keystroke activity, and even mouse movements. It transmits this information to external entities for advertising and analytics.
Plaintiffs assert that this practice constitutes unauthorized surveillance and violates federal statutes, including the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The lawsuit seeks both injunctive relief and damages, asserting that the platform’s public image as a kid-friendly environment is contradicted by its backend data practices.
New Jersey Sues Discord, Cites Risks to Children and Mentions Roblox
On April 17, 2025, New Jersey’s Attorney General filed a consumer protection complaint against Discord Inc. in Essex County Superior Court, alleging that the company’s platform places minors at serious risk. The lawsuit argues that Discord misleads users and fails to implement sufficient controls to prevent predatory behavior, allowing adult users unfettered access to children.
The state’s filing describes Discord as a “hunting ground” for those seeking to exploit minors, with its default settings allowing unsolicited messages and friend requests. The complaint also references Roblox as an example of where minors often gather online, making them more vulnerable to cross-platform contact with predators.
While Roblox is not a defendant in the New Jersey case, the lawsuit emphasizes how integrated digital ecosystems can amplify risks to children. The state seeks penalties and court-mandated reforms to enhance Discord’s moderation and user protections.
Florida AG Launches Roblox Investigation Over Child Safety Concerns
In a separate move, Florida’s Attorney General initiated a legal investigation into Roblox Corp. on April 16, 2025, issuing a subpoena that demands internal documentation regarding the company’s marketing, moderation policies, data collection, and age-verification systems.
The subpoena comes in response to rising concerns that the platform exposes young users to inappropriate content and gives predators access to minors through in-game communication tools. Florida’s inquiry is focused on determining whether Roblox’s practices may violate state-level consumer protection laws.
The investigation is not yet a lawsuit, but depending on the findings, regulatory enforcement could follow. Roblox publicly stated that it intends to cooperate and reiterated its commitment to safety.
Child Abduction in California Tied to Roblox Interaction
In a criminal case that drew national attention, a 10-year-old girl from Taft, California, was abducted after initiating contact with a man through Roblox and communicating with him on Discord. Authorities say the child was reported missing on April 13, 2025, and later found in the suspect’s car in Elk Grove—over 250 miles away.
The suspect, 27-year-old Matthew Naval, is currently in custody and faces multiple felony charges, including kidnapping and engaging in sexual activity with a minor. Investigators believe Naval had been grooming the girl for weeks using online gaming and messaging features.
He is being held on $1.35 million bail and has pleaded not guilty. The incident has intensified public debate about the vulnerability of children on platforms like Roblox and the extent to which those platforms bear responsibility for abuse that begins within their ecosystems.
Broader Legal Landscape: Multiple Lawsuits and Attempted MDL Involving Roblox
Roblox continues to face a growing number of legal actions across various jurisdictions, many of them initiated by families who allege that the platform’s structure and features contribute to psychological harm or sexual exploitation of children. Claims have been brought over grooming, sexual abuse, sexual assault, inadequate parental controls, and claims that Roblox knew their parental controls were too loose but did not want to disrupt their rapid growth or affect their shareholders' yachting season.
There is no doubt that legal scrutiny of Roblox’s operations is increasing, especially when it comes to how children are being exposed to grooming and abuse on the app. The company is now facing pressure on multiple fronts: private lawsuits like the Roblox sexual abuse cases filed by Dolman Law Group, government investigations like those by multiple AGs, and public outcry, which is sure to become increasingly louder as the facts come out.
